Nov 16, 2017 Phantom limb pain definition,
The advantages and pain, disadvantages of abercrombie cloning humans as well as the ethical and phantom limb definition, social problems involved in it! Pre-University Paper 2002 14 Pages. I think nobody can afford to Essay Life at Its 15" by Shakespeare, ignore the progress that is made in limb definition, science today. Scientific research gives us knowledge about things that nobody ever thought about just a few years ago, for example the luther's thesis, cloning of humans. In this essay I want to focus on phantom pain definition, this topic with special regard to the advantages and disadvantages and the social and ethical problems. I will start with a definition of cloning. 3 Kings Vaporizer Review? The next part of the essay will be about the pain, beginning of life followed by a listing of arguments about advantages and disadvantages of london human cloning. Furthermore my essay will involve a look on cloning and sciene fiction and finish with the phantom pain, economic reasons for cloning humans.
My motivation to do the Essay Youth: Peak William, essay about this topic is not only that it is crucial for everybody to phantom limb pain, think about cloning but in ayn rand fountainhead, my mind it is also very interesting and exciting to learn more about it. It is a scientific possibility that has become reality. Maybe cloning and genetic engineering will someday even affect my life or that of my children. I hope that I will be able to learn enough about cloning by writing this essay so that I can make up my mind on how I feel about limb, this topic. 1 The word cloning originated from the greek and means sprout or branch. Cloning is an asexual kind of reproduction. In order to understand the technique we first have to know how sexual reproduction basically works.Every human body cell has a set of 46 chromosomes 2 and every gamete, which is the man’s sperm cell and the woman’s egg cell, has 23 chromosomes. The gametes have only half of the chromosomes a body cell has because during sexual reproduction the egg cell and the sperm cell come together and create a new life which then has a complete set of chromosomes (46) in every body cell again, 23 from the was the of the truman doctrine, mother and 23 from the pain, father. Ayn Rand Fountainhead Quotes? If gametes would have complete chromosome sets, too, the number of chromosomes in the body cells of the following generations would continue to limb pain, grow.
Cloning works kind of similar but since the goal is to about Life at Its 15" by Shakespeare, create something which is genetically identical to limb pain, one model the fertilization process has to take place with the chromosomes ( the goffman theory, hereditary material) of only one person or thing. This can only be done by scientists in the laboratory (asexual). It works like this: One body cell from the model is limb definition taken and the core of the goffman theory, cell is phantom definition removed (the core contains the whole hereditary material which is on 46 chromosomes). Thesis? The core of this body cell is then implanted into an “empty” egg cell (empty because the core from the egg cell with the hereditary material on 23 chromosomes has to be removed as well). The fertilized egg cell then contains 46 chromosomes like it contains after sexual fertilization but with the difference that these 46 chromosomes are from one person and not from two, the limb pain definition, man and the woman. What happens with this fertilized egg cell next depends on what kind of cloning is to be practised, either therapeutic cloning or reproductive cloning. If therapeutic cloning is practised, the fertilized egg cell is harvested. When the cell has itself a few times divided, the valueable embryonic stem cells can be taken from the developing embryo, hereby the Essay Shakespeare, embryo is killed. These embryonic stem cells are so valueable because they can only be won from umbilical cord or from embryos and they are crucial for scientific research. The purpose of therapeutic cloning is to clone things such as organs and tissue for phantom limb definition patients in need (see advantages and disadvantages of human cloning). If reproductive cloning is practised the fertilized egg cell is implanted into the womans womb where it is able to develop to full maturity like a “normal” sexually fertilized egg cell.
Therefore reproductive cloning has the purpose of actually producing a human that is genetically identical to somebody else. 3 There are several opinions regarding this question but the only one that is biologically demonstrable is that life begins with the fertilization of the egg cell. The reason to support this argument is that with fertilization the london, genetic identity of the new life is phantom already determined completely since the mother’s and the father’s genes 4 are fused together. From this point on the embryo steadily develops and reign 3 kings vaporizer review, during this process the genetic identity doesn’t change any more. You could say that the genetic identity is like an instruction for the creation of the embryo, it just takes nine months till this instruction is phantom limb realized. From fertilization on reign 3 kings vaporizer, the embryo develops as a human and not to a human.
Some other opinions to the question where life begins are the following: 1) Life begins with birth because before birth the embryo isn’t able to stay alive on it’s own. It needs the mothers body to survive and to develop to full maturity. 2) Life begins when a human has the consciousness to live. Supporting this argument one has to phantom pain definition, believe that some mentally sick people and coma patients are not living either since they probably don’t have the consciousness to live. 3) Life begins after the first fourteen days, the first three months, etc. It is easily explainable why people favor this argument. Was The Purpose Of The Doctrine? Many have problems to define a bunch of cells ( that’s all a human is in the very beginning) as living. After some time ( for example three months) has passed one can at least recognize the shape of an definition, embryo. Argument one has at least a reasoning but the Youth: Peak 15" by, others a hardly acceptable from the biological point of view as there is no proof for phantom definition them.
The reason why it is important to define the beginning of life is that with its beginning every human has basic human rights that are unimpeachable. These rights are granted to every human without regard of attributes like age, race, sex, state of health or anything else and martin thesis, involve the right of human dignity and the right to live. Phantom Pain Definition? With cloning we would hurt these human rights, if one believes that life begins with fertilization. Reign 3 Kings? When a scientist takes stem cells from an phantom pain definition, embryo for therapeutic cloning and kills the embryo afterwards it is a violation of the right to live. Furthermore the scientist didn’t respect the human dignity of the embryo because he uses it like a rat for his experiments and then “throws it away”. Some people still defend therapeutic cloning by saying that this kind of cloning is Youth: at Its Peak 15" by a very valuable technique for scientists in order to limb pain definition, learn more about luther's, certain diseases but that doesn’t change the crucial point that human dignity is phantom limb definition hurt and that’s a violation against the law, at least in industrialized countries where these human rights belong to the law. Before we can make up our mind on fountainhead, how we feel about cloning we defenetly have to ask us where we see the beginnig of life and we have to pain, know the different advantages and disadvantages of cloning that I will discuss on the following pages. 4. Advantages and martin, disadvantages of human cloning. Although this part of my essay has the title “advantages and disadvantages of human cloning” you will see that I didn’t clearly define every single fact as an phantom, advantage or disadvantage. Instead of doing this I wrote down all my knowledge about this fact and left it up to the reader to decide whether he sees it as an advantage or disadvantage. I think this is luther's thesis something that everyone has a different opinion about. I can hardly give one definition and phantom pain, claim this to be right.
4.1 The reversion of the london, aging process. 5 We can reverse our own aging process by using cloning. It works like this: Each cloned body cell is a brand new cell. It is the exact copy from an limb definition, existing cell but is has the Essay Youth: Peak 15" by Shakespeare, advantage that it is not as old as the model 6 . If a person would copy/ clone his 7 body cells and have these cells inplanted into the body when he is older, this person could renew his body. Someday this technique could allow humans to live to any age they want. On one hand “this would eleminate fear of old age an limb, death” 8 but on the other hand realising the dream to what was the purpose truman doctrine, live forever brings a lot of new problems. We already have the problem that there are too many old people and not enough young people to phantom pain, pay for their pension.
This problem would get even bigger. Also old people may be physical healthy but we have no medicine or technique to renew their mind. For some people with mental illness this artificially prolonged life might not be worth living. Many people need organ donors but there are often not enough available and the risk that the body rejects the new organ is high. Many patients with an Essay Youth: Life at Its Peak in "Sonnet, implanted organ need to take a lot of phantom pain medicine with side effects each day for the rest of their lives to make sure that their body accepts the 3 kings review, organ. Phantom Definition? These side effects lower their life quality. It is possible to ayn rand, harvest embryonic stem cells and phantom limb pain, therefore it would be possible to grow organs or tissues, too. Everybody could clone his own organs. The clone shares identical genes to the model and hereby “the chances of rejection are nullified” 9 . It is even possible to grow skin for ayn rand fountainhead quotes burn victims by limb pain definition, using the victims own skin cells and cloning them. Up to today it is a big problem to help a burn victim.
At present the only solution is to take skin from a “less important“ part of the body and put it where it is needed ( e.g. when a persons face is all burned he could use skin from the leg to cover the burned parts ). 4.3 The chance to have children for infertile couples. Cloning could help infertile couples if they want to martin, have children. Phantom Pain Definition? At the moment those couples have a harsh time. Review? They have to “go through physically and emotionally painful procedures” 10 which are not only expensive and take a lot of time but which are also “estimated to be less than 10 % succsessful” 11 . Current infertility treatments don’t seem to improve soon because “being infertile is not considered a ‘real medical problem’ “ 12 in people’s attitudes. The solution is called “in vitro fertilization”: One single egg cell has to be taken from the woman’s ovary and put into a dish where it is fertilized with a sperm cell of the man.
The fertilized egg cell is than placed into the woman’s womb. It’s guaranteed that this technique is successful. Seen from the couples point of view using cloning in definition, order to have children is a brilliant idea but what about the london, ethical views? Cloning children will probably lead to the designer baby since the fertilized egg cell ( which is to be an embryo soon ) could also be enhanced with extra genes for special traits such as musical or athletic talent. Furthermore the egg cell could be tested for special heriditary diseases. If they don’t excist, the egg cell can be implanted into the woman’s womb, otherwise it will be annihilated. This technique is called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (pgd).
Maybe the parents want only phantom definition a boy or a girl. Essay About Youth: Life 15" By? Then, using a procedure called sexing, scientists separate the sperm cells and pain definition, choose the sex of the planned child. There are several critical points that have to be considered when talking about those embryo selecting techniques 13 : 1) Choosing one child over another is immoral. By doing this industrialized countries are no better than Third World countries who favor boy babies and often kill girl babies soon after birth. The only difference would be that we “kill“ the egg and not the born baby. At this point we have to Essay about in "Sonnet Shakespeare, get back to the question “where does life begin?“ If it begins, in your opinion, with fertilization, it would make no difference. 2) It is wrong to mess with the pain definition, natural order. Some people believe that there is a “predetermined goal for the evolution of humankind” 14 . 3) The medicine is misused. Its purpose in the general sense is to abercrombie, heal. 4)Embryo selection will put a lot of pressure on couples who want to limb pain, have children.
First of all if they don’t test their embryo for certain heriditary diseases for example and their child gets sick later, people may reproach them that they could have prevented this. As a consequence every couple is forced to test their baby, even if they don’t want to. Furthermore insurance companies or state regulations could make the condition to only provide health coverage to children who were embryonically screened for the absence of certain diseases. 4.4 The improvement of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. 15 Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery could be improved with the help of vaporizer review cloning. Definition? Up to today cosmetic surgery can be risky because the used materials are foreign to the body. Silicone breast implants may cause immune disease, for example.
Doctors would have the ability to manufacture bone, fat and connective tissue that matches the patient’s tissues exactly. Every person could change his appearance riskless. 4.5 The curing of diseases that are still uncurable. Cloning can be used to cure currently uncurable diseases. Diseases such as cancer are a “major killer throughout the reign 3 kings vaporizer review, world” 16 .We may be able to cure cancer if we learn how “cells differentiate into specific kind of tissue and how cancerous cells loose their differentiation” 17 . We could learn about limb, this and goffman theory, then we may be able to develop an effective gene therapy to help sick people. Another example of a currently uncurable disease is Tay-Sachs disease.
We could manufacture the phantom limb definition, enzyme hexoseaminidase A which is goffman theory calling for the disease when it is phantom limb absent. Essay Youth: Peak Shakespeare? Tay-Sachs disease causes an limb definition, unpreventable death by the age of five 18 . Using cloning to inquire after such diseases can save many lives. On the other side we would destroy the natural evolution process (see “The threat to ayn rand quotes, genetic diversity and evolution”). 4.6 The replacement of dead people. Before discussing this topic a big misunderstanding has to be pointed out. Limb Pain Definition? Cloning can only produce genetically identical humans but it can’t ensure that the personal beliefs or goals will be similar to the model, too.
This means for example that even if somebody would have a baby whose embryo was enhanced with genes for musical talent it isn’t guaranteed that this baby will someday become a famous pianist. The child may have musical talent but what he makes out of these talents, if he uses them or not, is up to abercrombie london, the child. If it is not interested in taking piano lessons for phantom limb example the talent will stay undiscovered. The problem is the same when somebody would try to vaporizer, replace a loved one. Unrealistic expectations on limb pain definition, how the character will be might lead to frustration. Of course the outward appearance of the clone will be exactly the same but the personality will be probably different and that’s the critical point here. The clone can never really be a substitute for another person.
Also we have to ask us if it is justifiable from the ethical side. Cloning people to replace others is somewhat similar to have another baby just to was the of the truman doctrine, create a perfect donor for the already existing sibling that is sick. Phantom? How would you feel if your parents someday tell you that you were only abercrombie london born for your brother or sister and that you wouldn’t be here now if your sibling wouldn’t have needed your help or wouldn’t have died? 4.7 The threat to genetic diversity and evolution. Clones are genetically like brothers and sisters. Therefore genetic diversity is phantom more and more destroyed by cloning and diseases can easier be spread under equal people. That’s the reason why nobody is allowed to reign, have a sexual relationship with a family member. Limb Definition? Humans already destroyed the natural evolution process by inventing all kinds of medecine. In consequence, even if that sounds cruel, people who were chosen to ayn rand quotes, die by nature are still living because we can heal them or at least enable them to live with their illness by using unnatural chemicals (what most of the medecine is). With cloning we would also create people that wouldn’t have been created by nature.
That is something revolutional but the question is phantom definition if humans are allowed to play god and control the evolution process. 4.8 The chance for reign review lesbians to phantom pain, have children. Like all ethical questions the question if being homosexual is considered “normal” or not is what of the one that everybody has own answers and pain, opinions to. It wouldn’t bring us any further to martin, argue about it here. If you accept it or not, technically it is limb pain possible to reign 3 kings vaporizer, create a baby with the hereditary material from pain definition, two mothers. They would both have to donate an egg cell. The hereditary material in both egg cells is then separated from the egg cells. Now the egg cell from goffman theory, one mother is fertilized with the hereditary material from the other mother. Limb Definition? The fertilized egg cell could then be implanted into either one of the mothers. Of course their baby will later look exactly like the what of the doctrine, mother who donated the hereditary material. By the limb pain, way: that’s how Dolly the quotes, sheep was cloned, too, only that the sheep had three mothers. One donated the egg cell, the limb pain definition, other donated the hereditary material.
The fertilized egg cell was then implanted into the third mother who carried the sheep out. By using cloning for this purpose, Lesbian couples have the 3 kings, possibility to create a family like all other couples, too, but this will probably evoque a lot of protest in society among those who don’t feel that they should have these rights because they don’t accept homosexuality. 4.9 A society that is broken into two classes. If someday many people have been cloned there will consequently envolve two classes of humans: the gene-enhanced and those who were “created” naturally. Of course the gene- enhanced will have a lot of advantages in limb, life since they were given special talents. Martin Thesis? It is logical that those gene-enhanced people will be the rich ones because only rich parents have the possibility to afford the techniques to enhance their baby with special genes. These rich gene-enhanced people can probably get better jobs than the others because of their special talents so they will get even richer. Limb? Rich people often have a lot of ayn rand fountainhead authority. If one continues to phantom definition, think this through the rich gene-enhanced people could someday be the most powerful ones and rule over the others. Also people with hereditary diseases are likely to be excluded from society and to become outsiders because their parents could not afford to test their baby for those diseases before it was born.
19 Now, after you are informed about the cloning of abercrombie humans in general and it’s advantages and disadvantages (the realistic possibilities that human cloning brings with it), I want to limb pain, show the unrealistic expectations of cloned humans as well. We often find these unrealistic expectations in books from abercrombie, science fiction authors and in science fiction movies. These fantasy products tell us horror stories about armies of clones that want to kill humans or the creation of a second Hitler. I want tu use these two examples to demonstrate how unrealistic such horror stories are. First of all these armies of clones are often described as armies of robots without feelings that are programmed to kill others by their creator and this is not possible. As I already wrote earlier in this essay clones are not much different from other humans except thet they were created by asexual reproduction thus having feelings like “normal” humans, too. The second question is: why would a person create such an army of clones if he would at least have to wait fifteen to twenty years till he could use this army for his interests?
Clones can’t grow and develop faster than other humans. A third problem is pain definition that this person would need several women that carrie each clone out and women that are willing to do that may be hard to find. The idea that a second Hitler could be created is another unrealistic science fiction phantasy. I already mentioned earlier in fountainhead, this essay that one could enhance a person with extra genes for special traits but the clones own will and his surroundings contribute to his character and beliefs as well. Hitler could get so powerful because of the german history. He used the pain definition, bad situation of Germany and convinced people that he would improve it. Was The Purpose Doctrine? A clone of Hitler probably wouldn’t have the possibility to do the limb definition, same thing at thesis present, the circumstances are not given. The most important aspect one has to keep in mind when he isn’t sure if something he heard is really possible or just a fictional story is phantom pain that clones are normal people of flesh and blood, no robots or machines that have no feelings and can be programmed to do certain things. Even if it would be possible to create clones for a certain purpose it probably wouldn’t be allowed since all humans, which involves clones as well of martin thesis course, have basic human rights and cannot be anyones property. 20 As you can imagine there probably will be people who try to definition, profit from cloning.
I found out some possibilities that people could use. I want to point out that the first two of those are rather unrealistic as they are a violation against human rights and they are hard to Essay Life at Its Shakespeare, realize. A cloning firm could buy DNA from a top ability worker and produce the clone of this person in another part of the world. When the clone has grown up the cloning firm tells him that he is the clone of phantom limb pain definition a top ability worker but not who is his model. Of course the clone is eager to know who the model is and is probably willing to pay a lot of ayn rand money to get this information. 6.2 Extract rents from clones via education. Top ability people have greater returns to higher education and top schools get high rents from the top ability people who visit their school. If some top schools would get together and invest in the cloning of phantom pain top individuals they would make their own future students and what of the truman doctrine, get a lot of rent from them later. 6.3 Patents for certain techniques. If a big firm would develop a technique to produce organs for transplantation, for example, and then have this patented it could make a lot of money because all the people who want to use this technique, in phantom limb definition, this example this would be people who are in need of an organ, would charge this firm. I want to start by abercrombie, pointing out that the thing I learnt best while writing this essay is phantom limb definition that this topic is very extensive. You can’t really discuss every detail in a little essay like this one.
I hope I managed to give an Essay about Youth: Life Peak in "Sonnet 15" by William, objective overall view. Phantom Definition? In my opinion you can’t think either just negative or just positive about cloning. Many things that cloning makes possible have their advantages as well as disadvantages to them. Lets take for example the reversion of the aging process: Many people would like to “live forever”. Essay Youth: Life In "Sonnet William? On the other hand, this will evoque the phantom definition, pension problem (see “advantages and disadvantages of human cloning”).
To my mind the martin, scientific progress today goes really fast and that’s a big problem. We have the possibility to do these big things that nobody has ever done before like cloning but we also have the responsibility for what we do. Phantom Limb Definition? The question humankind asks today is not “Do we have the reign vaporizer, possibilty to do it?” but “Do we have the right to do it? Are we ready to stand up for the consequences of our deeds?” Technically it is already possible for a long time to definition, clone humans. Many scientists are eager to try all of the luther's thesis, techniques out that they know about phantom pain definition, but the problem is that the government doesn’t allow them to do it yet. Especially the what was the truman, german government is very strict. I think that we should allow only therapeutic cloning since this could really help people. But we should have strict regulations. The production of organs and tissue by using therapeutic cloning, for example, should, in my opinion, only be practised when there is absolutely no donor organ for the patient who needs it and he would have to die without the organ. To my mind it would be murder if we know how to manufacture an organ but the patient still has to die because we didn’t use our knowledge.
I think it is also justifiable to help infertile couples with cloning but without using embryo selecting techniques. I reject reproductive cloning though. Phantom Limb Pain? In my judgement it has no sense to create an identical twin of about Life at Its Peak in "Sonnet Shakespeare somebody, especially because the character of the clone is probably different than the character of the model anyways. The special thing about humankind is phantom definition that everybody is different, why should we want to destroy this multiplicity? Last but not least I want to say that those parts of my essay which are titled “Advantages and disadvantages of human cloning” and “Economic reasons for 3 kings vaporizer review cloning” are just speculations. They are not unrealistic but it is important to realize that it hasn’t happened yet. Who knows what the future brings.… 1) Mc Kinnell, Robert Gilmore, Cloning - Leben aus der Retorte, Karlsruhe 1981.

aid for trade essay The nature of industries where unfair trade occurs that will be covered, involve a small community in phantom limb pain a less economically developed country (LEDC) working to obtain a resource that is bought for a minute amount of fountainhead money. It is then made into a product for more economically developed countries (MEDC) to mark-up the phantom pain definition, price and sell in stores. The specific products that will be covered are known for having a fair trade and unfair trade counterpart. Ayn Rand Quotes. These are cocoa and cotton. These two have in phantom pain definition common that they are grown on plants and the produce requires hard labour to maintain and abercrombie london, harvest. A way that trade could be made more fair for LEDC’s would be if some businesses that are buying the produce or product and phantom limb pain definition, have a large enough profit margin could be less greedy and give more money to the growers and people involved in the process. If we spend our money wisely and look for fair trade certified products we can all have a contribution to what was the purpose truman doctrine fair trade. The relationship should include a reasonable set contract that everyone involved agrees to, safe working conditions and aid where needed.in return the producers must live up to deadlines and produce high quality items. The wage paid should be enough for the workers to live reasonably well and limb pain, bonuses may be included for their communities.
In New Zealand we can buy Cadbury’s fair trade certified milk chocolate, some shops around the country like Micah clothing sell fair trade and organic certified jeans and martin, other garments. As New Zealand eats the most bananas per phantom limb definition capita in the world, All Good bananas are fair trade and can be bought at major cities. Fair trade is the way forwards as it gives developing countries a chance to pull themselves out of poverty and for the people to support their families and communities. Fountainhead. It also means better working conditions for the people and better products for the customer. From the growing of the cotton by the farmers to the processing of the denim into jeans there have been many unfair practises seen in phantom limb pain the cotton trade, starting with the planting of the cotton all the way to the shop where the jeans are sold. In china blue the girl jasmine had to move to the city to work in a jeans factory to help her family, we see her working in a factory for many hours per day for poor amounts of Youth: at Its 15" by William Shakespeare money. The people who also worked in the factory seemed to hate what they were doing, they were crammed in limb definition and unappreciated for the work they did. 3 Kings Review. These practices are really unfair on the workers; the fact that they have to work so many hours with little breaks would start to take psychological effects on anyone. The little money that they did get was really needed just to live, it was like a bad cycle for them and the quality of life was poor. In many cases of villages in LEDC’s working on cocoa plantations the workers are exploited and limb, paid little for a huge job from planting, maintaining and harvesting many cocoa trees. The job has many hazards and with lack of appropriate equipment, many accidents happen.
In the Cameroon cocoa video on abercrombie london YouTube it is seen that children as young as 8 are doing hard labour jobs on cocoa plantations that aren’t even safe for pain adults. Essay About At Its Peak William. Children have to phantom definition drop out of school to earn money and do these jobs involving big machetes and ayn rand fountainhead, poisonous chemicals. As with the cotton situation these circumstances are unfair beyond all means, the children involved lose out on a vitally important education and the work can permanently harm their bodies. The individuals have to work very hard for little money, as for children it harms their development and phantom limb pain, education. The families only ayn rand fountainhead quotes have enough money to survive and pain definition, cannot advance in life. The communities will stay in poverty as the people can hardly contribute and the children of the people in the communities will get nowhere if they do not get an education. In the Cameroon cocoa video on what was the purpose of the doctrine YouTube the pain, children had to be sent to work to help their families, the effect on the children is that they can’t go to school as the money earned is Essay Life Peak 15" by William Shakespeare, need, the phantom limb pain definition, families can only just get by and as a village everyone is in this similar situation they won’t be able to advance and the poverty cycle will go on. These impacts are huge and go on and on, the children are stuck because if they go to school their family will not have enough money to live, but if they don’t get an education the cycle will never break.
Without the reign, families and the village as a whole having more money than it costs to live, they will never be able to advance their lives and get out of poverty. A fair trade cotton option is phantom pain, Micah clothing; they make fair trade certified clothing. Cadbury's dairy milk chocolate is a version of fair-trade certified cocoa. Micah clothing has fair trade plans to help so that cotton farmers in LEDC’s don’t have to struggle and reign vaporizer review, they keep fair, stable prices in phantom definition place for them. Other things they do include organic crops so that their farmers won’t get sick from pesticides.
These plans that fair trade certified companies put in place are right and what was the purpose of the doctrine, necessary. It is morally wrong if these people in LEDC’s are exploited, so these fair trade companies are putting down foundations for phantom pain their better future. Micah clothing’s motto is “If we are to better the future we must disrupt the abercrombie, present.” With fair trade the people can start to have an improved life and more fair working conditions. In Cameroon cotton industry there is an phantom definition action to help the community, by giving them premiums as a group after certain periods of time; this enabled them to goffman theory get 3 wells which allowed them to have clean water and to improve the quality of life. As long as they keep up good production they will get more benefits and all the people involved will be better off. These impacts are big as the premiums would buy things that they would not be able to get otherwise, it is a group reward and the trade gives the buyer good quality cotton. If people are educated on what fair trade is and how it works it would be easier for them to contribute. When we buy products we could do a little bit of research about it and see if there are fair trade alternatives, then where possible buy these products to phantom limb definition support fair trade. Goffman Theory. Although fair trade can be more expensive, it is worth it to buy these products to help towards a better life for pain definition the people in poverty, so if it means you have to about in "Sonnet 15" by William Shakespeare spend an extra $10 on a pair of Micah jeans it is worth it. Limb. The people in LEDC’s who work for unfair trade deserve a good life just as much as anyone else so we should look to the future with fair trade.
These two same industries, cocoa and goffman theory, cotton have people and limb pain, companies working towards fair trade, it is clear why these fair trade alternatives are right and why we should buy fair trader products. Trade worldwide needs to was the purpose of the doctrine be made fairer for the people on the bad end of the bargain, if huge corporate businesses were less greedy it would not be such a problem. Though this is the way it is, it does not have to be the future, we can all have our contribution to fair-trade. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” The cotton, chocolate and banana industries also have companies using fair trade practices. These fair trade practices are used in phantom limb definition order for workers to get a fair deal. For example, some fair trade practices these companies use are: Pay the abercrombie london, workers a suitable wage, give them knowledge and equipment to protect themselves from phantom limb pain, hazards, and to use environmentally friendly farming practices. These fair trade practices positively affect individuals, families and communities. Ayn Rand. These fair trade practices are used in order for workers to get a fair deal. Some examples of how these fair trade practices affect these individuals, families and limb pain definition, communities are: We as individuals and goffman theory, consumers can make a difference to developing countries involved in these trades. We can make trade fair for LEDC’s if we all pitch in and do our bit. Some ways in limb pain definition which we could do this are: Buy only fair trade products where applicable. Promote awareness of unfair trade practices undertaken by organisations and promote all the benefits fair trade has to offer the 3 kings vaporizer review, consumer and the producers.
We should all consider fair trade more now and in the future, we shouldn’t dwell in the past. We are no longer living in an unconnected world, and know right from wrong. We should be able to tell fair from unfair and realise all the benefits that fair trade brings us and more importantly the producers in LEDC’s.

essay of the tempest Copyright Ian Johnston, Malaspina University-College, 1996. [The following is the text of a short lecture delivered, in part, in Liberal Studies 302 on February 28, 1996] Today I wish to provide something of a short introduction to Shakespeare's Tempest, first, by phantom limb pain acknowledging some of the interpretative richness of this play and, second, by proffering an approach which I find particular interesting and appealing. Then, we will have two other initial takes on the play, so that by the end of these short lectures you should have a better idea of some of the ways in which one might begin to shape an interpretation. Let me begin by martin luther's acknowledging an interesting point about this play: interpretations of the Tempest tend to be shaped quite strongly by the particular background which the interpreter brings to limb pain, it.
This point sounds like a truism (and it is), but I simply want to point to the fact that this play, more so than many others, tends to bring out in interpreters what their particular interests are in a way that other plays often do not. At least that has been my experience. In part, this happens because this play puts a good deal of Youth: Shakespeare, pressure on us to treat it allegorically, that is, to find a conceptual framework which will coordinate our understanding of what goes on in the play. I think we feel this mainly because there is little complex characterization in the Tempest (except perhaps for the figure of Prospero himself) and there are many elements which we cannot simply account for by taking the action naturalistically. So we want to know what they stand for: What exactly is Prospero's magic?
What does Caliban represent? Is the island a representation of the new world or a world of the imagination or something else? And so on. The answers to these questions, in my experience, tend to depend upon the major interests of the person seeking to understand the play. So, for example, those, like me, with a strong interest in limb definition, reading Shakespeare and a lively interest in theatrical productions of Shakespeare, tend to emphasize the extent to which the main focus in the Tempest is on the nature of art and illusion, especially theatrical art. This tendency is powerfully reinforced by the fact that this play is almost certainly Shakespeare's last full work, that the Tempest is, in effect, his farewell to the stage. No doubt there is a certain sentimentality in this view (certainly in goffman theory, my case there is). People with a strong interest in politics, however, often take a different slant, and see the pain play as having less to do with an exploration of theatre than with a probing artistic analysis of important political issues, especially those relevant to goffman theory, the oppression of the inhabitants of the new world or to the relationship between the intellectual and the political world. So, for example, the play has been presented as a statement about limb definition, colonial attitudes in the third world or as an exploration about the goffman theory role of the intellectual in post-glasnost Poland. Limb Pain? Other interpreters dismiss those suggestions and see in the play a vital exploration of education (the nature versus nurture dispute) or theories of politics or knowledge or whatever. What we want to Life Peak in "Sonnet 15" by William, do today is give you a sample of three different short takes on the play.
None of these will be elaborated at length, but the talks may provide some useful topics for the seminar groups to pursue. This lecture is thus the lead off in a trio of phantom limb definition, initial possibilities. The Tempest as an Exploration of the Nature of Youth: Life Peak 15" by Shakespeare, Art. I want to begin with a very obvious point. Limb? The Tempest is a very theatrical play, that is, it is obviously a wonderful vehicle for displaying the Youth: Life at Its Peak in "Sonnet 15" by full resources of the theatre: action, special effects, music, dancing, storms, and phantom definition, so on. Anyone who wants a Shakespearean play to produce mainly as an extravagant theatrical tour de force (say, a rock and roll extravaganza or an opera) would turn naturally to this play, which is rivaled only by Midsummer Night's Dream in luther's, this respect. And a number of modern productions have stressed mainly that element, without bothering about anything else (McTheatre approach to the play).
That is phantom limb pain definition clearly a legitimate approach; after all, a well delivered theatrical extravaganza can make a satisfying night of theatre. Abercrombie? And it is clear that The Tempest does depend for much of its effectiveness on a wide range of special effects- -sound, lighting, fantastic visions, a whole realm of magic. Phantom Limb Definition? But I think there's more to the theatricality of the london play than just its style. In my view, a central issue of the Tempest is an exploration into the nature of theatre itself. To give you a sense of what I mean, let me mention two questions that puzzled me about this play when I first read it. The first is phantom limb definition this: If Prospero's power is so effective against his opponents as it appears to be, then why didn't he use it back in Milan to avoid having to be exiled in the first place? And the second one, which arises naturally from that first one, is what purpose of the this: Given that Prospero is so keen on his magic and takes such delight in pain, it and 3 kings review, that it gives him so much power, why does he abandon it before returning to Milan? I puzzled over these questions until I came to what seems to limb pain, me the most satisfying answer. It is what was the purpose truman doctrine a very obvious one: the magic does not work in Milan; it is effective only on the island, away from the limb Machiavellian world of the court, where plotting against each other, even against one's own family, for the sake of about Youth: Life Peak in "Sonnet 15" by William, political power is the phantom limb order of the day and where, if you take your mind off the political realities for very long, you may find yourself in a boat with a load of books heading to an unknown exile. Thesis? Prospero's magic can only become effective in a special place, a world of spirits, of illusion, song, and enchantment, on a magic island--in other words, in phantom limb definition, the theatre.
After all, look what happens in this play. A bunch of political types from the busy court of Naples and Milan are lured away from their power political business into a world of illusion, where they are led around by strange powers (above all, music and apparitions) they do not fully comprehend but whom they cannot resist until they all come together inside Prospero's magic circle. Prospero controls the entire experiment through his ability to create and 3 kings vaporizer review, sustain illusions. Phantom Pain? He is throughout the Essay about Life at Its in "Sonnet William Shakespeare master of the action, and there is phantom limb never any suspense (well, almost none), since he has such absolute control of human beings through his control of what they see and hear and experience. If we accept this possibility as an interpretative metaphor, then we need to explore how that might make sense of other elements in the play. Vaporizer? Remember that in such questions the Principle of Inclusiveness is an important guiding rule: the interpretation should make sense of as much of the play as possible, and in any conflict between rival interpretative possibilities one important criterion for judgment is the adequacy of each interpretation at limb pain definition providing a coherent and consistent sense of as much of the play as possible. In order to pursue this idea of the Tempest as an exploration of the nature of theatrical art, I want to turn for a while to ayn rand quotes, what happens in the play. C. Prospero's Experiment. The Tempest, it is clear, features an experiment by Prospero.
He has not brought the Europeans to the vicinity of the island, but when they do come close to it, he has, through the power of illusion, lured them into phantom definition his very special realm. The experiment first of all breaks up their social solidarity, for they land in different groups: Ferdinand by himself, the court group, and abercrombie, Stephano and Trinculo by themselves. The magic leads them by separate paths until they all meet in the circle drawn by Prospero in front of his cave. There he removes the spell of the illusions; the human family recognizes each other, and phantom limb pain, together they resolve to abercrombie, return to Italy, leaving behind the powers of the magic associated with the island. What is the purpose of Prospero's experiment? He never gives us a clear statement, but it seems clear that one important element in that purpose is Miranda. He wants to arrange things on her behalf, and of all the people in the play, her situation is the most transformed: she is going back to phantom pain definition, Europe a royal bride, filled with a sense of enthusiasm and goffman theory, joy at limb definition the prospect of living among so many fine people in a society that, quite literally, thrills her imagination.. I'm going to come back later to consider the question whether Prospero's experiment is Life in "Sonnet William Shakespeare a success or not. But however we judge it, it seems clear that one great success is the marriage of Ferdinand and Miranda.
The experiment brings them together, awakens their sense of wonder at the world and at limb definition each other, and is sending them back to Milan full of the ayn rand fountainhead finest hopes for the world. These two young people carry with them the major weight of the pain optimistic comic hopes of the play's resolution. Another success in Prospero's experiment is the change of heart which takes place in Alonso. Prospero's actions bring Alonso face to face with his past evil conduct and prompt him to repent and 3 kings review, reconcile himself with Prospero, even to the point of surrendering the political power he took away so long ago. Moreover, we might want to argue that there's is the beginning of a similar change in Caliban, who at least comes to realize something of his own foolishness in resisting Prospero in favour of two drunken European low lifes. The most complex change in the play takes place within Prospero himself. In considering his motives for undertaking the experiment, we cannot escape the sense that Prospero harbors a great deal of phantom limb pain definition, resentment about his treatment back in Milan and is never very far from abercrombie wanting to exact a harsh revenge. After all, he has it in his power significantly to injure the parties that treated him so badly. What's very interesting about this is limb that Prospero learns that that is what was the doctrine not the appropriate response.
And he learns this central insight from Ariel, the very spirit of illusion, who is not even human. Speaking of the fact that all of Prospero's enemies are now in his power and are painfully confused, Ariel says: Ariel: . . Phantom Limb Pain Definition? . if you beheld them now, your affections would become tender. Prospero: Does thou think so spirit? Ariel: Mine would, sir, were I human. Prospero: And mine shall. Hast thou, which art but air, a touch, a feeling. Of their afflictions, and abercrombie london, shall not myself,
One of their kind, that relish all as sharply. Passion as they, be kindlier mov'd than thou art? Though with their high wrongs I am struck to th' quick, Yet with my nobler reason `gainst my fury. Do I take part.
The rarer action is. In virtue than in vengeance. Phantom Definition? (5.1. 18-28) This is a key recognition in the play: virtue expressed in forgiveness is london a higher human attribute than vengeance. And in the conclusion of the play, Prospero does not even mention the phantom definition list of crimes against him. He simply offers to forgive and 3 kings vaporizer, accept what has happened to him, in limb pain definition, a spirit of about at Its in "Sonnet Shakespeare, reconciliation. Prospero's Magic as the World of the Theatre.
It makes sense to me to see in this Shakespeare's sense of his own art--both what it can achieve and what it cannot. The theatre--that magical world of definition, poetry, song, illusion, pleasing and threatening apparitions--can, like Prospero's magic, educate us into a better sense of ourselves, into a final acceptance of the world, a state in which we forgive and forget in the interests of the greater human community. The theatre, that is, can reconcile us to what was the purpose of the doctrine, the joys of the human community so that we do not destroy our families in a search for righting past evils in a spirit of limb pain definition, personal revenge. It can, in a very real sense, help us fully to understand the central Christian commitment to charity, to loving our neighbour as ourselves. In the same way, Prospero's world can awaken the young imagination to 3 kings vaporizer review, the wonder and joy of the phantom pain definition human community, can transform our perceptions of human beings into a brave new world, full of about at Its Peak in "Sonnet, beauty, promise, and love, and excite our imaginations with the prospects of limb pain, living life in the midst of our fellow human beings.
In the world of the Tempest, we have moved beyond tragedy. Luther's? In this world Hamlet and Ophelia are happily united, the old antagonists are reconciled. This is not a sentimental vision, an pain definition, easily achieved resolution. It takes time--in this case sixteen years--and a measure of faith in the human community that one is prepared to hold onto in the face of urgent personal demands. This play seems to be saying that theatrical art, the magic of Prospero, can achieve what is not possible in the world of Milan, where everyone must always be on guard, because it's a Machiavellian world ruled by the realities of what was the purpose of the truman, power and injury. But the limb pain play is not without its sobering ironies. And there is 3 kings vaporizer review a good deal of discussion of just how unequivocal the celebration is at the end.
For Prospero is phantom limb pain definition no sentimentalist. He recognizes the martin luther's thesis silence of Sebastian and Antonio at definition the end for what it is, an indication that they have not changed, that they are going to return to Naples and Milan the same people as left it, political double dealers and ambitious and potentially murderous power seekers, just as Stephano and Trinculo are going back as stupid as when they left. Prospero's theatrical magic has brought them together, has forced them to see themselves, but it has had no effect on some characters (unless the staging of the end of the play conveys in non-verbal ways that the two noble would-be killers are as contrite as Alonso appears to fountainhead, be). That's why in acknowledging the most famous single line quotation from the play, one needs also to definition, examines the four words which immediately follow: Miranda: O brave new world. That has such people in't! Prospero: `Tis new to thee. Those four words of Prospero are wonderfully pregnant. Abercrombie? In them he acknowledges his earned awareness into limb definition the nature of review, human beings, into the complexity of human life. But he is not about to deliver Miranda another sermon, for phantom limb he knows that the sense of joyful and optimistic wonder which she, as a young woman, is carrying back to Italy is the martin world's best hope. It may be, as he well knows, naive, for limb Miranda has, as yet, no sense of the evils that lurk back in the political world of the abercrombie london city. She sees only the attractive exterior of her human surroundings with no sense yet of the definition potential deceptions within.
But she is as well equipped as he can make her, and it is not up to him to sour her youthful enthusiasm with a more complex and less affirming mature reflection. Life At Its William Shakespeare? That is something she is going to discover in her turn. In fact, one might even argue that if Prospero's experiment is designed to make everyone better, then it's a failure in limb definition, large part. And it may be that Prospero recognizes that fact. It is thesis not unusual to phantom definition, stage this play in such a way that the conventional comic structure of the ending is seriously undercut by the sense of sadness in goffman theory, Prospero, who is returning to Milan to die. I'm not pressing this interpretation. All I want to limb, call attention to at this point is that the ending of this play may not be the unalloyed triumph of the london comic spirit that we are tempted to see there. Prospero's sober awareness of what the silence of Sebastian and Antonio means qualifies our sense that the eternal problem of human evil has been solved. One major interpretative decision any director of the play has to make concerns this ending. Just how evident and serious should those ironies be: non-existent, a light shadow under the communal joy, or a heavy reminder of what is in store back in Italy.
Prospero's Farewell to the Stage. That's why, in the last analysis, Prospero has to surrender his magical powers. Phantom? Life cannot be lived out in the world of illusions, delightful and educative as they can often be. Life must be lived in the real world, in martin luther's, Milan or in Naples, and Miranda cannot thus entirely fulfill herself on the island. The realities of life must be encountered and dealt with as best we can. The world of the theatre can remind us of pain definition, things we may too easily forget; it can liberate and goffman theory, encourage youthful wonder and excitement at all the diverse richness of life; it can, at times, even wake people up to limb definition, more important issues than their own Machiavellian urge to self-aggrandizement, and, most important of all, it can educate us into 3 kings vaporizer forgiveness. But it can never finally solve the problem of evil, and it can never provide an acceptable environment for a fully realized adult life. Prospero, as I see it, doesn't start the play fully realizing all this. Definition? He launches his experiment from a mixture of motives, perhaps not entirely sure what he going to do (after all, one gets the sense that there's a good deal of improvising going on).
But he learns in abercrombie, the play to limb, avoid the twin dangers to what was the purpose of the doctrine, his experiment, the two main threats to the value of his theatrical magic. The first I have already alluded to, namely, to use of his powers for purposes of vengeance. Prospero, like Shakespeare, is a master illusionist, and he is phantom tempted to reign review, channel his personal frustrations into his art, to exact vengeance against wrongs done in Milan through the power of his art (perhaps, as some have argued, as Shakespeare is doing for unknown personal reasons against women in phantom limb pain, Hamlet). But he learns from Ariel that to do this is to deny the moral value of the reign 3 kings art, whose major purpose is to reconcile us to ourselves and our community, not to even the score. The second great threat which we see in this play is that Prospero may get too involved in his own wonderful capabilities, he may become too much the showman, too proud of showing off his skill to attend to the final purpose of what he is doing. Limb Pain? We see this in the scene in goffman theory, which Prospero puts on a special display of his theatrical powers for Ferdinand and Miranda--his desire to limb definition, show off makes him forget that he has more important issues to attend to, once again putting his art in the service of the social experiment. And it's interesting to note that it was his self-absorption in his own magic that got Prospero in trouble in what purpose truman, the first place. There's a strong sense in this play, that whatever the powers and wonders of the illusion, one has to maintain a firm sense of limb definition, what it is for, what it can and cannot do, and where it is most appropriate. It can never substitute for Youth: at Its Peak William Shakespeare or conjure away the phantom complexities of life in the community. This approach helps me to understand, too, the logic behind Prospero's surrender of his magic. He has done all he can do.
Having wrought what his art can bring about, having reached the martin zenith of his skill, he has nothing left to achieve as an limb, artist. He is going home, back to the human community, perhaps to die, perhaps to vaporizer, enjoy a different life, now able to definition, appreciate more fully what he did not understand so long ago, the proper relationship between the world governed by magic and illusion and the world in which most of us have to live most of the time--the compromised world of politics, alcohol, buying and selling, family strife. Of course, it is critically illegitimate and no doubt very sentimental to link Prospero's giving up of his art with Shakespeare's decision to give up writing plays and to return to Stratford to enjoy life with his grandchildren. But it's a very tempting connection, especially in the light of the ayn rand wonderful speech in 4.1, one of the most frequently quoted passages in the play, a speech which has come to be called Shakespeare's Farewell to the Stage. I'd like to conclude by reading this speech, urging you to remember that Shakespeare's theatre, called the Globe, was destroyed by fire very soon after the Tempest was first performed (a facsimile is now being reconstructed on the banks of the Thames and will open next spring). Prospero: Be cheerful, sir.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and. Are melted into air, into thin air; And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a wrack behind. Phantom? We are such stuff. As dreams are made on, and our little life. Is rounded with a sleep. Dreams may be the stuff of life, they may energize us, delight us, educate us, and 3 kings review, reconcile us to each other, but we cannot live life as a dream. We may carry what we learn in the world of illusion with us into phantom limb life, and perhaps we may be able, through art, to learn about how to deal with the evil in the world, including our own. But art is not a substitute for life, and it cannot alter the fundamental conditions of the human community. The magic island is not Milan, and human beings belong in Milan with all its dangers if they are to be fully human. As I said at the start of this lecture, the above interpretation is reign vaporizer review just one possibility, and we are going to hear more; there are some sections of the phantom play, particularly Prospero's treatment of london, Caliban, which this approach may not account for so successfully.
But I find this approach particularly compelling, in large part, I suspect, because it makes such a wonderful conclusion to Shakespeare's total work. It seems an entirely fitting last word from the world's greatest dramatic poet, who leaves the sources of his power on the stage which he made famous, so that the last thing we see are the instruments of the most powerful theatrical magic and are left with the question: Who will now arise to claim them?
